Good Housekeeping’s entry deserves a closer look, because its lab put the software through its paces. The X50 Ultra mapped and navigated the test area quickly, and it skirted every obstacle with ease (Good Housekeeping). One tester called it an exceptional machine. That’s a genuine result, earned on a real floor, and we have no quarrel with it.

Notice what the test covered, though. Mapping worked, on the first attempt, in a room laid out for the purpose. However thorough a lab session is, it ends before the interesting question arrives. Does the plan your customer drew still exist a year and fourteen updates later?

Read the middle column again with that in mind. Every criterion names something visible in a week: a mechanism, a material, a screen layout, a score on a test floor. Software durability across a decade of ownership appears nowhere, because no competition is built to measure it.

That’s not a knock on the juries, who do exactly the job they advertise. Instead, it describes what the category never gets graded on. A machine can genuinely deserve its trophy while its owner still can’t keep a no-go zone saved.

Every row draws on owner posts in public forums plus the makers’ own support pages and advisories. QAwerk did not reproduce these on physical devices, so each root cause is a likely explanation rather than a confirmed one.

When the Map Disappears and the Robot Keeps Cleaning

Owners take this one personally, and fairly so, since what gets destroyed is their own labor. The striking part is how openly it’s documented. Three of the five makers describe the failure in their own support material.

ECOVACS is admirably direct about it. Move the DEEBOT or switch it off, the help center says, and the unit must work out where it is again. Engineers call that step relocalization.
